Irmak Akar
I was born in Istanbul on August 4, 2001. I successfully completed my primary, secondary, and high school education. In my last year of high school, I studied art history for about a year to prepare for the architecture exams in Italy. In the same year, I was accepted to Istanbul University's Italian Language and Literature Department and studied the preparatory year in the Italian language. While I was still preparing for the architecture exam, I made a radical decision that I wanted to study at the faculty of fine arts, and after a 3-month talent exam preparation course, I was accepted to the Yıldız Technical University Art Department Graphic Design Program.
In my first year in the graphic design department, I started digital drawing and had the opportunity to do a few freelance jobs. At that time, upon the advice of my friends, I started a business of painting and selling t-shirts by hand, but it did not last long. I always loved dyeing, embroidering, and sewing my clothes. Besides graphic design and drawing, one of my biggest hobbies has always been dealing with fabrics.
When my second year ended, I did an internship at Kagito company as a graphic designer for 3 months. In my third year, I worked as an intern student in YTU's Scientific Research Projects Department for 2 semesters. As an intern student, I worked as a website administrator and designed posts and banners for social media and print. Meanwhile, I learned to crochet. I opened a TikTok account and started making videos about what I knit, how I modify my clothes, and what I do as a graphic design student. At the beginning of my fourth year, I had the opportunity to do an art director internship at an advertising agency called Simple Global Agency for about 1 month.
I describe my style as maximalist and psychedelic. I've always loved a little chaos. I like to use vibrant colors and strange shapes, go beyond conventional design patterns, and challenge myself. It can be said that I am in a constant search because I do not like doing the same thing all the time. I attribute the reason I came this far to my ambition and desire to improve myself.
